Coaches Comments:
Work Ethic:
Brandon puts in a lot of time becoming a better athlete. He doesn’t just do what is expected of himself, he goes above and beyond doing the little things that separate him from the competition. While Brandon put up some impressive numbers running the ball when the game was on the line, he worked just as hard and with the same intensity in practice. Brandon wants to get better and he understands there is no substitute for working hard.

Leadership:
While under classmen rarely take on the role of a leader on varsity, Brandon leads by example. Brandon is very poised on the field. The players and coaches feed off of his enthusiasm to compete and win.

Ability:
Brandon has a very solid foundation. He possess many elusive qualities that are not coachable. He has exceptional vision, acceleration and speed. That ability allows him to cut and change direction quickly, which we all know separates an average running back from a exceptional running back. Brandon was our team offensive MVP. In a tradition rich program such as Bishop Heelan a distinguished award such as the MVP is one I don’t believe a sophomore has every been recognized with. Traditionally, very few Bishop Heelan athletes play both sides of the ball so when you have an athlete on your team that runs 75 yards for a touchdown, kicks the extra point, runs up field to kickoff, then remains on the field to play defensive back and he is only a sophomore you know you have a special athlete. In one game this year he actually accounted for 45 of our 47 points, scoring 6 touchdown, kicking 6 extra points and kicking a 38 yard FG. In another game against a solid 6-3 team he ran for nearly 300 yards and that was before halftime. Brandon also has excellent hands and was often sent out in routes.

Potential:
This is the biggest upside to Brandon. With Brandon’s foundation he has only begun to tap into his full potential. He has made great strides just from his freshmen year to his sophomore year. Brandon’s ability and potential have not gone unnoticed by others as well. He was selected 2nd team All-State RB, the only sophomore in the state of Iowa to receive such recognition. Brandon’s work ethic, leadership and ability will only get better with his commitment to bettering himself and his team. Brandon has set his goals high and his desire and commitment will take him as high as he wants to go.

Character:
When Brandon had an exceptional game he was quick to give the credit to his blockers. He treats others with respect and puts trust in his teammates.

Competitiveness:
Everyone wants to play in the big game and score the winning touchdown, but what is as impressive was Brandon’s ability to carry that competitiveness and intensity over to practice. Competitiveness drives Brandon to become the best he can be.

Coachability:
Brandon is very respectful of his teammates and coaches. He is very willing to listen to the coaches to improve his reads, routes, pass coverage and kicking. When we needed a kicker, Brandon stepped up and took on the challenge.

I do hope you will give Brandon every consideration. It is not often that we have a player of Brandon’s ability, work ethic, competitiveness and potential here at Bishop Heelan.
